How Many Blogs Do You Have?

how many jelly beansIn my mind there are three main types of bloggers in the world. The first being a person who wants a simple web page to keep an online diary or personal journal. The second being a business person needing an online presence whose not technical nor wanting to spend a lot of money to design a custom site. And the third and most popular being those looking to try and make money online. My guess is the majority of eBlog Templates readers belong to group number three.

With the ease of setting up a new free blog via Blogger, Typepad, WordPress, Vox, or one of the many others out there, we’re seeing more and more “make money online” blogs and why not? It’s easy to setup and place Google AdSense ads or affiliate banners on your blog or even create eBay affiliate sites and duplicate the process over and over.

Assuming you follow the general blogging rules (unique content, etc) and don’t get banned from Google, you can easily succeed in having dozens if not hundreds of blogs out there. My question is how do you update them all making sure the content is continually fresh and interesting? Do you hire writers to help you post? Are you scraping content from other sites with an automated script? Maybe you’re creating the sites but not updating the content.

So from my experience let me tell you a bit about us. eBlog Templates actually belongs to Niche Blog Media which has over a dozen (and growing) different niche blogs in it’s network. Having to manage all those sites is actually quite tough and the biggest problem we have is lack and frequency of new content. We hire some writers to post daily but it’s honestly tough to find additional people who are looking just to blog.

We’ve posted contracts on eLance but those who responded were asking $20/post for original content. That’s just too much for each blog post. They are of course good writers with original content but there’s a gap not being filled right now. Writers are used to writing sales letters or longer documents which is not the same as blogging really. Blogs need 300-500 word posts on a daily basis but those types of posts don’t pay very much. Who is going to fill this gap and why hasn’t somebody already stepped up?

Having said that, it takes time and patience to build, foster, and grow your blog network. There’s a lot of competition out there and it’s only going to get more difficult.

So since I’ve shared my experiences with you, I’d like to hear how many blogs you have and what’s your ultimate goal? Make money? Create inbound links for SEO? Is it working?

And that’s why some kind of blogs will be never profitable. Especially the professional and specialized. In the long term the money you can earn from google and others is the same whatever the niche is. You can find in an excellent niche during some time, but sooner or later competition and more concious ad-posters will reduce the money you can earn with each click. And, at the same time, a doctor is going to ask quite more money to write about new kidney cancer therapies than a geek speaking about latest iPhone rumors. How can you fill the gap? Search for wannabees… I mean, if you are a famous doctor with an earning money blog, you could offer to university students to post in the blog even free. Cause they could include that articles in their CV and that’s excellent for them.
My 2 cents.

If you persist and plan for the long term you can make some cash.

Pick your niche and concentrate heavily on it. Make sure it has a demand.

Generate traffic through providing comments and joining forums. If you focus on your customer or reader and not on your competition then you are more likely to be successfull.

Further to my previous comment – if you create unique content then you will attrach visitors.

You can read up on unique content at local libraries and online.

David on Mar 27, 2008, 8:38 pm

Beamer, that’s good you are able to keep them updated at least once a week. So do you have the four blogs just to try and make money or for another reason?

Beamer on Mar 28, 2008, 4:05 am

I have set up a google ads account, and I have it on place in my Photo blog. I really need to finish up the details on it so I can see what is going on. I have been on the Internet since ’92, so making money off the Internet is a bit foreign to me.

I have thought of selling some stuff on Ebay though.

Hmmm.Let’s see… I have my craft blog which is my priority for now. I try to blog here at least once a week.

I have a found pictures blog that I update at random.
Then I also have a Multiply account, a Vox account, a Live journal account — all personal, and all of which still have to be dusted off. That brings it to a total of five blogs. Wow.

I just started one wordpress blog. it’s @ http://www.watchfreechannel.com
How do you maintain thousand over blogs?

Morley on Dec 9, 2008, 9:54 am

I have four – two older ones for different content, and two newer ones, because I am trying to make things more structured, and hopefully profitable. I’m not sure if I will try to sustain all of them, because I want to free up time for other projects.

DS on Dec 11, 2008, 7:57 am

I possess just one 🙂 (http://darksaturn7.blogspot.com/)
I talk about what I want and if it works, it works. If not I still have fun in the end.

i have 5 maintain blog by myself, but it is quite hard for me to handle http://www.indonesiaassociate.com

cassandra on Jan 13, 2009, 1:37 pm

ive just created 27 blogs in barely 2 weeks, 9 markets with 3 diff blog sites, and still counting. i’ll push myself to create and maintain hundreds ++ to maximize profitability through adsense etc. One cause in mind – revenues to help relieve poverty.

dont worry about it on Jan 13, 2009, 2:21 pm

ya i have a couse like that in mind too its called help me relieve my poverty anyone elses povertywww.howtostartyourownsmallbusiness@blogspot.com

David on Jan 13, 2009, 9:37 pm

@cassandra, that’s a lot of blogs…congrats. Are you writing unique content for each one or just repurposing content from other sites? That’s always the issue I come across. Creating the blogs is fun and relatively easy. It just takes time. The hard part is writing unique content and constantly updating your blog. You can have 10,000 blogs but they won’t grow and make money because you can’t scale if you don’t outsourcing your writing.

monique on Jan 24, 2009, 2:28 pm

@ David, continued my previous comment.
Now i have 2 blogs ( actually have more than 2 but most of them “banned” by google).www.balean.info is my new blog and i keep it update.
I want to ask You, what did google do with my blogs (the banned Blogs)??
If I write unique content, is there still probability to get banned?
Thanx

cassandra on Feb 1, 2009, 9:30 pm

@ David: The best content is an original content but if im planning to build a huge network of blogs, i sure cant manage to handle that, as well as outsourcing the writing tasks which would be very costly. There are a lot of places where articles and some contents can be borrowed WITH DUE AUTHOR CREDITS and/or LINKS. And i can combine them all to make a unique page. Though i havent actually jump-started and stuck with these 27 blogs for now, i found it tough, honestly, just dressing it up, learning these and those along the way. I learned, as well that QUALITY OUTWEIGHS QUANTITY – the more sites we maintain, the more money we are bound to make=) Well, goodluck to all the bloggers! Aint we all live to blog?=)>

cassandra on Feb 1, 2009, 9:32 pm

I meant: QUANTITY OUTWEIGHTS QUALITY.

Puneet on Feb 19, 2009, 6:12 am

i have blog network of 500 as general blogs … and 20 niche blogs which are maintained properly .. i try to update atleast 3 to 4 times a week on those niche blogs …

😀 😀

David on Feb 19, 2009, 11:50 pm

@Puneet, wow that’s a lot of blogs. How can you keep up with 500 different blogs to update?

Puneet on Feb 20, 2009, 12:05 am

i got writers and trained ppl to work on it and keep it updated …

i have started a service too like :- i will post an article related to ur website on those 500 blogs or if u want on 100 blogs with ur site link in it (max 3 links)

p.s. :- m not doing advertising of my service here, just replying to the above comment.

Armand on Feb 28, 2009, 6:18 pm

Creating new blogs is easy maintaining them is difficult. I can only manage two blogs seriously at this time and my other blogs are just to test their features and for social networking.

It is something i try to do, is to save money, so i am just talking about things i have done to save money.

The Jiggler on Apr 27, 2009, 11:46 am

I have over 100 blogs, about 75% adult and the rest mainstream. My faves are the “free gaming” blogs, and actually those are the ones that make me the most money.
Pick your niche, concentrate on it, build more sites in that niche, link them together sensibly, and turn your couple of sites into a blogging empire. Monetize your traffic in multiple ways, and beyond all else, keep blogging!

Fara on Apr 27, 2009, 9:17 pm

i only have one… n thats my online journal type :$
i find it difficult to maintain that one :P… i try to do one post a week…
but thats coz i work 9 hr a day and six days a week.. but im proud of my effort :P.. just started my blog two months back. its still a baby :P… need to learn alot

WomenMaster on Apr 28, 2009, 7:31 pm

Reply to Fara, that is how you start with one, but just keep working at it and learning as you go, mine are very basic, for example:-

http://girlsandchocolate.blogspot.com

Your blog will get more content then and should start to get some search engines.

Supposodly the more pages a blog has the more it will be seen by search engines?.

That is one of the things i ahve read, is it guarenteed the more posts inside a individual blog the more search engines find it?.

Soo the bigger your blog gets fara over time the more popular it should become, i believe.

WomenMaster on Apr 28, 2009, 7:40 pm

wow fara your blog is pretty professional looking!, i just clicked on your name to look at your blog “my online journal”, and it looks very good.

So only bit of advice i can think is like in my last comment, and as your content grows in your blog it will help it.

I think i am correct with that, but otherwise, you obviously know how to put a blog together.

another one of mine and i am at the basics of putting one together, but its still fun doing it even though mine look basic, as i am a beginner.

After Smallville?

people will laugh at my blogs when/if i get traffic, but if i enjoy making em, then its all good.

Techguysl on Sep 20, 2009, 10:51 am

Currently I have two blogs hosted on blogger platform. On those two I really care about my technology blog. I write some thing new every two days and it’s not that difficult. Computers and technology is always changing and there are tons of topic to write about. But there are millions of other technology blogs and it’s so difficult to have decent traffic to the blog. For my point of view number of blogs you have doesn’t mean any thing. You can do better with a single blog.
