Ads Theme Template

Click to enlarge Ads Theme Blogger template

If you’re looking for a new Blogger template, you came at the right time. Hands down, this is the best template we’ve converted here at eBlog Templates. It’s a wonderful web 2.0 popular blog layout with some great built in ad spots (hence the template name) and features.

It’s either a two or 3 column template (you can change it on the fly) so you get the best of both worlds. This Blogger template is what I call a “powerhouse” template since almost all the features you need are already built in. On top of that, it’s quite easy to setup and makes your blog look like a professional site without much effort.

I predict this template will be a top template on this site within a few months, if not weeks. With the amount of effort that went into converting this template and attention to details, I sure hope you appreciate this free amazing new xml Blogger/Blogspot template.

Features Include

  • Two or Three right side columns which are easy to switch (default is three)
  • Three great location ad spots (header banner 468 x 60, three 125 x 125 buttons in sidebar, and a 468 x 60 AdSense banner above the first post)
  • Integrated Feedburner rss and subscribe via email sidebar module (also includes “add to favorites” Technorati link)
  • Built-in live traffic feed widget from FEEDJIT
  • Built-in MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog recent reader widgets
  • Dynamic tabs easily created by editing the link list widget
  • Search box without the need for a “go” button
  • Recent posts and comments widgets
  • Nicely designed individual blog post comments section
  • Properly setup Blogger layout editor

You can see from this screenshot that the actual editor is nicely setup so you don’t need to scroll or try and figure out how to click on the “edit” widget links. Most templates that you download make it tough to edit — not this one!

ads-theme-layout.jpg

This template does require some configuration in order to get it working as designed. Please follow the steps below if you’d like it to work properly. I also recommend backing up your existing template before changing just in case you run into any problems. You could also setup a new Blogger blog as a test area and try installing it there first.

Top Tabs Setup

When you first install this template the top tabs will not be visible which is normal. You’ll need to go into the Blogger page element layout editor and edit the “Top Tabs” widget. It’s a link list so just add whatever tabs you want. Don’t add a “Home” tab since it will automatically appear once you create and save the tab widget.

Header Ad Banner

The default banner is hardcoded into the template but will disappear when you add anything to this widget. It’s an HTML widget so you can put the banner ad code straight into this box. This widget can also be deleted if you don’t have a 468 x 60 and you’ll just be left with the black header. Here’s the default ad code if you want to use it as a model:

<a href="https://www.linkworth.com?a=10230" target="_blank">
<img src="https://www.linkworth.com/adm/affiliate_manager/affiliate_banners/bann-36.gif" border="0" />
</a>

FeedBurner RSS and Email Links

To get this section working you’ll first need to have a FeedBurner account. If you don’t already have one, please read the “How to Setup FeedBurner on Blogger” article and then come back. Another option is to just delete this widget if you’re not interested in knowing your subscriber count or allowing your readers an easy way to subscribe.

Once you’ve got your FeedBurner account, you’ll need to edit this template code and replace a few parts. Search your template code for the following line <!-- Replace Your RSS, RSS Email Subscription, and Technorati --> and then look right below that for the rss feed link.

https://feeds.feedburner.com/<strong>YOUR-FEED-NAME-HERE</strong> . Replace the text in red with your FeedBurner name (i.e. eBlogTemplates is ours)

Next we’ll need to update the subscribe via email link with your feed id. You’ll need to make sure to enable subscribe via email within FeedBurner otherwise this part won’t work.

https://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/emailverifySubmit?feedId=YOUR-FEED-ID-HERE&loc=en_US

After you’ve changed both of these areas save your template and check to see if it works. If you’re having trouble finding your feed name or id, please read our article above or see FeedBurner’s help section to locate it.

125 x 125 Ad Section

These are the three ads in the right sidebar which you need to edit the template code to change. Search the template code for <!– Replace with your 125 x 125 ads –> and then look right below that for the three lines of ad code which are:

<a href="https://www.widgetbucks.com/home.page?referrer=7116002"><img src="https://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh92/eblogtemplates/adstheme/banner-widgetbucks.gif" border="0px" /></a>

<a href="https://www.linkworth.com/?a=10230"><img src="https://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh92/eblogtemplates/adstheme/banner-linkworth2.gif" border="0px" /></a>

<a href="https://www.text-link-ads.com/?ref=2164"><img src="https://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh92/eblogtemplates/ads/text_link_ads_F_125x125.gif" border="0px" /></a>

If you’ve got ads to place in here, then just paste the code into the template. I recommend signing up for your own Text Link Ads account and using them. Each referral you convert, you get $20 (or $25 I forget). If you don’t have ads to use, you can either leave our default ads or delete this widget altogether.

Recent Posts and Comments Widgets

This one is easy to setup since we’ve already written an entire article dedicated to this. Please see “How to Setup Recent Comments and Posts Widgets” to configure these two widgets.

Recent Readers Widget

You’ll need to have MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog accounts if you want to use this widget. The default widget will show the original author’s pictures so please either delete this widget or change the account ids to your own. Once you’ve setup these up, then edit the template code and search for <!-- Replace "2007112507294841" with your your mybloglog id --> and then replace the account numbers with yours.

Live Traffic Feed Widget

This is a really cool feature within this template and the best part is you don’t need to do anything to setup it up! There are some further options if you click on “options >>” on your actual blog page under the widget but that’s it.

You should now have the template all setup and ready to go. I hope you enjoy this beauty and please make sure to keep the footer links intact since numerous hours of my time and the original designer were put into making it. That’s all we ask for giving away this template! Enjoy!

Special thanks to Eric over at Blogging Secret for designing this wonderful template originally for WordPress.

Revision History

Update (3/3/08) – Per a couple requests and to make this template even more flexible, I’ve changed how underlined links are handled. You can now edit the underlined color via the Blogger “Fonts and Colors” section along with 10+ additional other color variables. Less work for you having to mess with the .css template code now.

Update (3/5/08) – Added in post author tags so you can toggle the “By Author Name” within the posts. Also compressed the css so the file is much slimmer and cleaner.

Update (3/14/08) – The individual posts Google AdSense code block was missing and has now been added to the template code.

Update (4/18/08) – Fixed layout screen so the two widgets aren’t overlapping.

Hi Brenda, First thing, please configure your comments otherwise no can leave comments: go to Blogger settings and make sure you have have pop window or full page. At brendaadstheme.blogspot.com I checked the source code and everything looks intact. In page layout, the “top tabs” is where you add your nav links. Once you start adding links, the Home link will automatically show together with your new links.

webroker on Feb 20, 2009, 4:52 pm

@noodle_cook, ok I set the comments, but I had it set to show below post. Now I set it to “full page”, whats this page here set at? Below.? or full page..?

When I set the nav links, where do I point them to to have blogger hosted another page? Or does it have to be a link to a totally different site and url? I’ve never had a blog with a nav bar before.

If you have the time please keep an eye on it, because I’m going to be making some changes to it all night.

Thanks again,

Brenda~

@noodle_cook,

My “top tabs” and “search bar” are on top of each other not side by side like it shows in the screen shot on this page. That’s what confused me.

Brenda~

noodle_cook on Feb 20, 2009, 5:07 pm

Hi Brenda,Don’t worry about the look in Blogger page layout as the template will work in the browser. As to the question on the comment form, you will need to tweak the code manually using “Edit HTML”. Before you start, back up template.

noodle_cook on Feb 20, 2009, 5:14 pm

Hi Brenda, To get you links pointing to the relevant blogger page, you first create a post with a “label” eg. “About”, which, for that label will give URL http://brendaadstheme.blogspot.com/search/label/About.

webroker on Feb 20, 2009, 6:50 pm

@ noodle_cook,

I’m wondering where I would place the code for the “add this” button at the bottom of each post. The code I pasted below, but I can’t find the code in the HTML of the template where is. I’m supposed to place it before that line of code:

Here’s the code:

var addthis_pub="webroker";

I am using this template, and am very happy with this. It is very easy to use, and looks great. I have 2 questions that I am hoping you can help me with:
1. How do I display Comments form below each post?
2. How can I move labels to end of post, instead of end of title?

Thanks for your help, and for providing this template for free.

ph_investor on Feb 20, 2009, 11:06 pm

I have been using this template on my blog for about foreclosures 3 weeks now and all I can say is thank you to eblogtemplates! I was able to solve all of the problems I encountered by reading mostly the comments of others who are also using this template, thanks to all of you.

webroker on Feb 21, 2009, 8:48 am

@ishan,

If you look at the comment from noodle_cook to me above you will see how to imbed the comments box below your post. As far as you question 2. That’s a good one I would like to do also. Is there anyone who could figure out how to place the tags below the post rather than on top of the post where it is now (just below the title of the post)

isnah asks: 2. How can I move labels to end of post, instead of end of title?

Thanks,

Brenda

Brenda Christopher on Feb 21, 2009, 12:58 pm

@nitrogenboy, scroll up this conversation board and you may find you answer. It seems to happen to many people. If you’re new to code and have noone to help you on a full time basis I would recommmend you use a simpler blogger template provided by them. That is, until you feel more comfortable with tweaking the HTML and Widget box. I’m still pulling my hair out and I’ve had a lot of help!!

noodle_cook on Feb 21, 2009, 5:54 pm

Now the post gets too long, and you need to move poster, timestamp, labels, and comments to the bottom of post, find the code between <span class=’meta’>, then cut and paste and put in post footer:

<p class=’post-footer-line post-footer-line-3′>
<div class=’entrytitle’>
   <!– enclose with div entrytitle to control the style–>
   <!– Cut and paste the code for span meta–>
    <span class=’meta’>put it here</<span>
</div>
</p>

If you just want the labels moved then cut and paste this and put in the “put it here” stub indicated above:

<b:if cond=’data:post.labels’>
   <b:loop values=’data:post.labels’ var=’label’>
      <a expr:href=’data:label.url’ rel=’tag’><data:label.name/></a>
      <b:if cond=’data:label.isLast !=&quot;true&quot;’>,</b:if>
   </b:loop>
</b:if>

@noodle_cook,

I can’t find that code on my HTML at all. Should I have the box checked off to “expand widgets”, because I do and my code looks nothing like that.. In fact, my code doesn’t have any of these (“) closing links, these are in their place (‘) and I have a bunch of this stuff (  <) which i have never seen before and my regular 125″ x 125” HTML code links from linkshare don’t work at all. I had to tweak the whole line of code just to get one lousy ad link to show up.. πŸ™

Dear webroker and noodle_cook,
You guys are amazing. I tried the code for comments, and it worked great. My blog is looking much better now.

There is another unique problem that I am facing with this template. I did not find anyone else making that complain, so I sure problem is for my blog only. I am trying to add Google adsense code as a part of my posts. But somehow, the ads come in small rectangles, irrespective of the format I choose. I have tried Image ads, text ads, and even ad link units, but ads always come in the same manner. I have created a test post in which you can see this problem:

http://savefewbucks.blogspot.com/2008/11/test-post-ignore.html

It will be great if you could suggest something about this as well. Thanks in advance

Ishan on Feb 22, 2009, 11:44 am

@noodle_cook: thanks for leaving comment regarding the problem. However, the problem is still not solved. I have tried 2 versions of Google code:
1) After converting “” signs
2) Without converting.

In first case, the actual code is getting displayed in the post, and not the ad.

In second case, IE window is throwing an error (notice the small Yellow triagle at bottom left corner). I am not able to understand what to do. Could you suggest something, please:

http://savefewbucks.blogspot.com/2008/11/test-post-ignore.html

Ishan on Feb 22, 2009, 12:53 pm

@noodle_cook:

You Rock! You Rock! You Rock!

You correctly spotted the problem: br tags were getting added in between google adsense code. I did some search around it, and found that Blogger has a feature in Settings tab to change line breaks to br. In my case, that feature was enabled, and that was causing the additional br tags. I just disabled that setting, and everything is working fine now.

Thanks a lot for your help buddy.. you are fantastic.

Ishan

@noodle_cook,

I’m still confused, I must be blind or just a plain moron. Am I supposed to CUT the code xxxx that you show here( class=’meta’>xxxx ) or COPY IT and then paste it where you say? Also, do I look for this code with or without “expand widgets” checked off? Remember, I have the share button added at the bottom of each post also!!

Thanks,
Brenda~

Brenda Christopher on Feb 22, 2009, 1:59 pm

@noodle_cook,

My code is not as “clean” ‘if you will’ like the code you asked me to find.. My code shows up like this with my “widgets expanded” box check -without the parenthesis ( <p class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-3'> ). Now, I have NO idea why mine is like that, I suppose it has something to do with being xml vs plain html, I have no idea, I’m trying my best but this is all kinda new to me. :\

Thanks,
Brenda

noodle_cook on Feb 22, 2009, 4:22 pm

Hi Brenda, Are you able to find the line code, after expanding widget templates, enclosed with the span tags? There’s a lot of code in between and I have abbreviated with xxxx in the previous code. I call it a ‘big chunk of code now:

<span class=’meta’>
[big chunk cf code]
</span>

This chunk of code needs to be moved to the post footer which you locate by finding this line:

<p class=’post-footer-line post-footer-line-3′>

The code has to to pasted like so:

<p class=’post-footer-line post-footer-line-3′>
<div class=’entrytitle’>
<!– enclose with div entrytitle to control the style–>
<!– Cut and paste the code for span meta–>
<span class=’meta’>put it here</<span>
</div>

</p>

Ron on Feb 22, 2009, 4:40 pm

Good Day!

I am using this template now? Is there any way that I can insert adsense code in the post itself, I mean the adsense are in mix with the body of the post:

Post title
post body text
**adsense**
post body text continuation

Thanks.

Brenda Christopher on Feb 22, 2009, 4:40 pm

@noodle_cook,

Yes, I finally figured it out.. Instead of cutting the code “between” the xxxx, you were explaining to me, you have to cut the ENTIRE LINE OF CODE INCLUDING THE and then just paste it after the footer code. I was looking for a place to paste it “between” some bunch of code I did not have on my page. Well anyway, after a very hectic day, I actually can say I did it!!! Thank you again noodle_cook πŸ™‚ Brenda

Any help on that one..?

@ all,

So now that I have the template working on one blog that noodle_cook posted for me for testing out. I save and “back-up” the Template for using on the blog I intended using it on. What heppens when I upload the Template to the new blog? Take a guess, just one.. You got it, : We’re sorry, but we were unable to complete your request.

When reporting this error to Blogger Support or on the Blogger Help Group, please:

* Describe what you were doing when you got this error.
* Provide the following error code and additional information.

so now what, I mean really. What could possibly be wrong? Do I have the settings wrong in the blog I am trying to move the template to.? Any help would be appreciated, not only have I put in many hours at this, but noodle_cook and a host of others have helped me mold this blog theme into shape for me to actually use.. And when I’m ready to go “Live”, it punks out on me.!! Very discouraging, to say the least and I have my brother and his hot shot programmer friends goofing on me now.. 😐

Hi Ron, For embedded Adsense, check out Ishan’s success further up this web page. When I first went about a solution for Ishan, I thought he wanted the hack for wrap around the adsense where you embed the code in the template after “escaping” some characters such as quotes, < and >.

Since checking out Ishan’s website here http://savefewbucks.blogspot.com/2008/11/test-post-ignore.html, I found the Adsense is in several places in BETWEEN paragraphs. To achieve this, according to Ishan, turn off “convert line breaks” in Blogger via “Settings” tab and then selecting “formatting” menu item. I have enabled float alignment in my settings. Then in the post editor, cut and paste your Adsense code. There is no need to “escape” characters, although the code corrupts if you switch back and forth between HTML and Compose, giving rise to Ishan’s initial problem with the wrong size ad with black border. Good luck!

@Brenda,

About the myblogcatalog ID and mybloglog ID;

I think you are supposed to create an account with those sites; after which you get an ID which you can use to customize the “Recent Readers” widget with.

Brenda Christopher on Feb 23, 2009, 11:34 am

I’m not keen on placing an adsense ad at the bottom or top of every post, maybe I will at a later time.
For now I have the following question regarding the “recent posts” and the “popular posts” sections of the template. I noted when i opened the popular posts widget section I can place in manually from within the widget box on the layout page, but how does the “recent posts” section show up or do I have to place code manually in that wonderful area I hate to touch and tweak with.!? πŸ™

Thanks in advance for any help,
Brenda

Brenda Christopher on Feb 24, 2009, 5:24 pm

Hi All,

Not to be repetitive because I believe I asked this question before, but are my recent posts supposed to show up “automatically? in the box on the layout or is that something I have to update every time I add a new post? I’m trying to get all of the tweaking and teething problems out of the way before I use this template for one of my blogs. Oh, that’s another question I have. When I backup this template and then go to use it for another blog. How does this have to be done so that the posts I have on the blog are still there when I change the template to this one? It’s probably a dumb question, but I’ve never changed a template after building a blog with a lot of posts.

Thanks,

Brenda

David on Feb 24, 2009, 6:30 pm

@robtuk, the template was fixed and tested. There might be some cases where a widget has the same name and will conflict so you’ll need to rename it.

David on Feb 24, 2009, 6:32 pm

@noodle_cook, thanks for letting everyone know. I’ve renamed BlogArchive1 to BlogArchive88 in the template so it shouldn’t conflict with existing widgets.

I would like images on my posts to be 468 px wide, but when I import them, Blogger shrinks them automatically. Is there a way to edit the code so it sets the width to 468 automatically?

Brenda Christopher on Feb 25, 2009, 8:41 pm

The header ad banner code didn’t delete automatically when I placed my own banner code into the box for it on the layout page. But, I found it in the code box (after expanding widgets) and deleted it manually. I have the original test page still up for anyone who wants to check it out for testing or whatever at ( http://brendaadstheme.blogspot.com) that the page noodle_cook posted to get me up and running with (after so many bl-ixed error’s from blogger I was about to give up.!!) Here’s the blog I’m now using it with and hopefully if it works out without me pulling my hair out I may use some more templates from this site and change the templates on some of our other blogs. (with my big brothers approval of course.) lol.

Thanks again to everyone here who’s helping us less experienced bloggers. Especially noodle_cook πŸ™‚

All the best,
Brenda
