Ads Theme Template

Click to enlarge Ads Theme Blogger template

If you’re looking for a new Blogger template, you came at the right time. Hands down, this is the best template we’ve converted here at eBlog Templates. It’s a wonderful web 2.0 popular blog layout with some great built in ad spots (hence the template name) and features.

It’s either a two or 3 column template (you can change it on the fly) so you get the best of both worlds. This Blogger template is what I call a “powerhouse” template since almost all the features you need are already built in. On top of that, it’s quite easy to setup and makes your blog look like a professional site without much effort.

I predict this template will be a top template on this site within a few months, if not weeks. With the amount of effort that went into converting this template and attention to details, I sure hope you appreciate this free amazing new xml Blogger/Blogspot template.

Features Include

  • Two or Three right side columns which are easy to switch (default is three)
  • Three great location ad spots (header banner 468 x 60, three 125 x 125 buttons in sidebar, and a 468 x 60 AdSense banner above the first post)
  • Integrated Feedburner rss and subscribe via email sidebar module (also includes “add to favorites” Technorati link)
  • Built-in live traffic feed widget from FEEDJIT
  • Built-in MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog recent reader widgets
  • Dynamic tabs easily created by editing the link list widget
  • Search box without the need for a “go” button
  • Recent posts and comments widgets
  • Nicely designed individual blog post comments section
  • Properly setup Blogger layout editor

You can see from this screenshot that the actual editor is nicely setup so you don’t need to scroll or try and figure out how to click on the “edit” widget links. Most templates that you download make it tough to edit — not this one!

This template does require some configuration in order to get it working as designed. Please follow the steps below if you’d like it to work properly. I also recommend backing up your existing template before changing just in case you run into any problems. You could also setup a new Blogger blog as a test area and try installing it there first.

Top Tabs Setup

When you first install this template the top tabs will not be visible which is normal. You’ll need to go into the Blogger page element layout editor and edit the “Top Tabs” widget. It’s a link list so just add whatever tabs you want. Don’t add a “Home” tab since it will automatically appear once you create and save the tab widget.

Header Ad Banner

The default banner is hardcoded into the template but will disappear when you add anything to this widget. It’s an HTML widget so you can put the banner ad code straight into this box. This widget can also be deleted if you don’t have a 468 x 60 and you’ll just be left with the black header. Here’s the default ad code if you want to use it as a model:

<a href="https://www.linkworth.com?a=10230" target="_blank">
<img src="https://www.linkworth.com/adm/affiliate_manager/affiliate_banners/bann-36.gif" border="0" />

FeedBurner RSS and Email Links

To get this section working you’ll first need to have a FeedBurner account. If you don’t already have one, please read the “How to Setup FeedBurner on Blogger” article and then come back. Another option is to just delete this widget if you’re not interested in knowing your subscriber count or allowing your readers an easy way to subscribe.

Once you’ve got your FeedBurner account, you’ll need to edit this template code and replace a few parts. Search your template code for the following line <!-- Replace Your RSS, RSS Email Subscription, and Technorati --> and then look right below that for the rss feed link.

https://feeds.feedburner.com/<strong>YOUR-FEED-NAME-HERE</strong> . Replace the text in red with your FeedBurner name (i.e. eBlogTemplates is ours)

Next we’ll need to update the subscribe via email link with your feed id. You’ll need to make sure to enable subscribe via email within FeedBurner otherwise this part won’t work.

After you’ve changed both of these areas save your template and check to see if it works. If you’re having trouble finding your feed name or id, please read our article above or see FeedBurner’s help section to locate it.

125 x 125 Ad Section

These are the three ads in the right sidebar which you need to edit the template code to change. Search the template code for <!– Replace with your 125 x 125 ads –> and then look right below that for the three lines of ad code which are:

<a href="https://www.widgetbucks.com/home.page?referrer=7116002"><img src="https://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh92/eblogtemplates/adstheme/banner-widgetbucks.gif" border="0px" /></a>

<a href="https://www.linkworth.com/?a=10230"><img src="https://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh92/eblogtemplates/adstheme/banner-linkworth2.gif" border="0px" /></a>

<a href="https://www.text-link-ads.com/?ref=2164"><img src="https://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh92/eblogtemplates/ads/text_link_ads_F_125x125.gif" border="0px" /></a>

If you’ve got ads to place in here, then just paste the code into the template. I recommend signing up for your own Text Link Ads account and using them. Each referral you convert, you get $20 (or $25 I forget). If you don’t have ads to use, you can either leave our default ads or delete this widget altogether.

Recent Posts and Comments Widgets

This one is easy to setup since we’ve already written an entire article dedicated to this. Please see “How to Setup Recent Comments and Posts Widgets” to configure these two widgets.

Recent Readers Widget

You’ll need to have MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog accounts if you want to use this widget. The default widget will show the original author’s pictures so please either delete this widget or change the account ids to your own. Once you’ve setup these up, then edit the template code and search for <!-- Replace "2007112507294841" with your your mybloglog id --> and then replace the account numbers with yours.

Live Traffic Feed Widget

This is a really cool feature within this template and the best part is you don’t need to do anything to setup it up! There are some further options if you click on “options >>” on your actual blog page under the widget but that’s it.

You should now have the template all setup and ready to go. I hope you enjoy this beauty and please make sure to keep the footer links intact since numerous hours of my time and the original designer were put into making it. That’s all we ask for giving away this template! Enjoy!

Special thanks to Eric over at Blogging Secret for designing this wonderful template originally for WordPress.

Revision History

Update (3/3/08) – Per a couple requests and to make this template even more flexible, I’ve changed how underlined links are handled. You can now edit the underlined color via the Blogger “Fonts and Colors” section along with 10+ additional other color variables. Less work for you having to mess with the .css template code now.

Update (3/5/08) – Added in post author tags so you can toggle the “By Author Name” within the posts. Also compressed the css so the file is much slimmer and cleaner.

Update (3/14/08) – The individual posts Google AdSense code block was missing and has now been added to the template code.

Update (4/18/08) – Fixed layout screen so the two widgets aren’t overlapping.

monaco on Feb 25, 2008, 4:31 am

wow, this one’s great! I’ll use it for a new blog I’m setting up. thanks.

David on Feb 25, 2008, 4:50 am

@Glad you like it Lady. Please make sure to keep the footer credit links though. I noticed you removed them from your current WP-Polaroid template you downloaded from our site. πŸ™ No links, no support. πŸ˜‰

lady on Feb 25, 2008, 6:12 am

hey david, i did not remove it.. wait ill check it..

you are right there’s no link pointing to you. sorry about that.. i must have unknowingly deleted the link when I deleted the chitika code.. can you provide me with the link so that i can place it the footer. You deserve the credit and i am ashamed of my innocent mistake..

lady on Feb 25, 2008, 6:20 am

i made a temporary link, but i will wait for the link code coming from you.. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜›

David on Feb 25, 2008, 7:10 am

@lady, thanks for the quick fix. You’d be amazed at how many people who download our templates remove the links with no respect for the effort it took in making the template free for them. I appreciate your honesty and adding the link back. That link is fine. πŸ™‚

great post… i haven’t seen this template as a blogger template till now!

Eric on Feb 25, 2008, 11:51 am

Thanks for your long post to promote my wordpress theme, I appreciate your hard work! Great description and explanation! πŸ™‚

David on Feb 25, 2008, 6:43 pm

@Androo, yes eBlog Templates is the first to have converted this template from WordPress. I’m sure you’ll start seeing it pop-up on other sites soon since we’ve released it for free here. πŸ™‚

David on Feb 25, 2008, 6:44 pm

@Eric, no problem. It’s a great WordPress template and I appreciate all your hard work in designing it! Now Blogger users can benefit from it too. πŸ˜‰

lady on Feb 25, 2008, 7:48 pm

you are right david.. i too made a template before, it was more of a modification basing from a premade template. i added my “modified by link” but then the user deleted all the links, including that of the original template maker.. .. some people do that.

you give the templates for free but they don’t give you credit. Same thing was experienced by jack of jackbook.

There’s karma and it will come to everyone! πŸ˜‰

Faizan on Feb 26, 2008, 7:17 am

great template with awesome features.
I would love a template with similar features that is suitable for a football blog as I have one.(my colours are red, black and white)
can the colours of this template be changed?

David on Feb 27, 2008, 7:25 pm

@Faizan, you can change all the colors but you’ll need to edit the .css in the code directly. I’ve only setup the template to change font size and color for the header title and descriptions from within Blogger.

Hi David

Firstly, many thanks for sharing this wonderful template of yours.

Could you assist me – I have downloaded yr template, but when I ‘preview’ it, it reads:
Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: The document type declaration for root element type “html” must end with ‘>’.

Can I know how to fix it?

old hack on Mar 1, 2008, 10:18 pm

The Tabs button was advertised as a tab widget that saved people from having to reload. That’s why I downloaded and installed it. Now here you say it’s just a link list. That’s really disappointing. Is there anyway to alt the html so the tabs feature IS Actually a tab feature?

Jake on Mar 2, 2008, 4:11 am

Hello David,

I added this template to my blog at http://www.freeappleipodtouch.com

but Google Adsense is not showing in between my posts. Because of this I’m losing a lot of money. Please help me fix this issue. How do I add Google Adsense in between the posts? ( I selected the option in the settings but the Ads are not showing) Please help. Thanks!

– Jake

David on Mar 2, 2008, 8:42 am

old hack, unfortunately it’s not an easy modification. Most header tabs are designed to take someone to another page. How would it work if your tab was a link to another site?

Tinh on Mar 2, 2008, 8:47 pm

Hi there, I used this for my own blog at vietblogviet.blogspot.com. I guess this original theme is designed by Blog Oh Blog for WP them converted to blogger with more features, i love it. Please tell me how to make the post title to blue color and hyperlinks in posts to blue colors too. Thanks πŸ˜›

pyrexia on Mar 3, 2008, 3:02 am

Excellent template. I’ve been through about 4 different template designs (not Blogger’s) in the past few weeks, this one is a keeper. Love how I’m able to use the Page Elements the way they’re supposed to be used; most 3rd party templates turn things upside down…

One thing. The “top tabs” aren’t locked into the search banner. If the page is resized horizontally they float off the header or through it. For awhile I thought I had messed up the coding while I was tweaking things, but I checked the demo link here and it does the same thing. Any thoughts?

pyrexia on Mar 3, 2008, 3:04 am

Update: This only happens in IE.

Ah well, who cares about IE anyway! πŸ˜›

QuaChee on Mar 3, 2008, 3:49 am

Hi David

Could you advise on how do we edit the Archives that allow users to select the month, rather than open all at once?

David on Mar 3, 2008, 6:45 am

@Tinh, yes you can change the colors but you’ll need to edit the .css code within the template code. If you aren’t familiar with .css then I recommend finding a tutorial online and go from there. Good luck!

David on Mar 3, 2008, 6:49 am

@QuaChee, if you edit the archive widget within blogger, you should be able to change the layout there.

David on Mar 3, 2008, 6:50 am

@pyrexia, thanks for the heads up. Some people still do use IE (they haven’t seen the light yet..hehe) so it’s good to know about the top tab bug.

Well Well guys 😯

… yeap I openned my eyes and so the “Recent Comments” underline on my template and not in the http://vietblogviet.blogspot.com/ from Tinh

Well Well guy πŸ˜€ Did I miss some tricks ?

I prefer not to see this underlines … some solutions around ?

Thanks for your adviese David.

old hack on Mar 3, 2008, 6:03 pm

I had to steal the tabs widget from the demo’s source and replace the one built in with the demo’s before I could modify it so that “Home” didn’t direct ppl to ‘blogger’.

is there any tutorial you could advise me towards. I’m sure it’s just a simple directive. How does the demos tabs work? its in the demo’s template but not in the downloadable template.

David on Mar 3, 2008, 6:20 pm

@old hack, the demo template is the exact same as the downloadable version. The home tab is just a hardcoded li element with an a href=”/” (which is your root). I’m not sure why yours sends people to the blogger homepage. hmmm

REY on Mar 4, 2008, 12:49 am

hey dave..

i got a problem with the links having underlines. coz even photos within a post has an underline if its got a link.

tried to locate it in the code but i couldnt find it.. πŸ™

any advise?

David on Mar 4, 2008, 1:02 am

Rey, just looked at your blog and there don’t seem to be any photos (that I could find) with underlines. Both your Maroon5 photos look fine. Am I missing something?

Tinh on Mar 4, 2008, 1:06 am

Hi David, actually I really love this theme no matter where it is from but I would like some tricks to make title of the post and hyperlink underline to be unique such as blue color, not the same with the text to make users not confused of my posts. Thanks

pyrexia on Mar 4, 2008, 1:12 am

I had the same problem, was driving me nuts. Look for the line ‘border-bottom: #222 solid 1px;’ comment it out or just delete it (don’t forget to backup your template). It’s in 7 different locations in the head element:

.blog-pager a
.feed-links a
.entrytitle h2 a
.entrytitle h2 a:hover
.post a, .commentlist a, .navigation a
.comments a {
.comment-footer a {

rey on Mar 4, 2008, 2:30 am

sorry mate. i may have deleted the fotos right before u checked it.. my bad. sorry for that..

yer a champ man!.. thanx for the tip.. cheers.

pyrexia on Mar 4, 2008, 3:50 am

No prob, hth. πŸ™‚

David on Mar 4, 2008, 4:34 am

@Rey and Pyrexia, thanks for your feedback. I’ve updated the template code so it doesn’t include those border-bottom tags anymore. On top of that, I added 10 or so new color variables you can adjust via the Blogger “Fonts and Colors” setting tab. You’ll of course have to download it again if you wish to get the updates.

rey on Mar 4, 2008, 4:34 am

i think i did a pretty good modification of this template.. πŸ™‚

Hi David,

Why are my “Recent Comments” underline ?

Thanks !

pyrexia on Mar 4, 2008, 5:44 am

@Rey, looks great, nice blend, easy on the eyes. Having Ramiele grace your blog doesn’t hurt one bit. However, I have a feeling you might regret removing those cool tabs…I did. πŸ˜‰

@David, of course today there are “10 or so new color variables you can adjust via the Blogger β€œFonts and Colors” setting tab”. I spent most my day yesterday figuring out the color scheme and which element did what. But, I do know the code much better, and what does what, so I won’t complain.

Love the comments setup here (hint hint) πŸ˜†

Any comments on my newly redesigned blog? Ignore the obnoxious orange, it can’t be helped (team color). I can take criticism, so have at it.

David on Mar 4, 2008, 5:56 am

@pyrexia/rey- Sorry guys, I guess that’s what happens when you’re an early adopter. Happened with me when I purchased the iPhone before the $200 price cut (in the US). πŸ˜‰

Both your customizations look great! Rey, I really like your color scheme and header image. Pyrexia, I’d like yours better if it was a SF Giants blog instead of the NY Mets. lol It’s good to see lots of different spin offs of this template.

fyi, we’re going to be launching a new section here at some point called something like “What have you done with your template”. It’s going to be a place where Bloggers like you can submit your customized templates and get featured on our site. Should be pretty cool.
